Help a Rwandan person
We are a small charity founded in 2007 when Helen and Paddy were working as University lecturers in Rwanda. They noticed the needs of some people were great. They were fortunate to befriend 2 colleagues – Amans and Jeffrey who understood the needs of their community. More recently ‘Mother’ has joined our team. Working together, H.A.R.P. was formed.
The founders.......

Take a look at our achievements to see the wonderful things we have and are achieving with just a small amount of money. All of this has only been made possible by working closely with the Rwandan community and generous donations from elsewhere.
Registered status
Wonderful news!!!!!! (January 2011)
After much paperwork filling and a telephone call, I am delighted to announce that we are now a registered charity. HURRAH!!
Our registration number with the Charity Commission is 1139978.
The trustees are myself, Paddy, Liz Brown (friend and nurse) and Sue Nelson (friend and neighbour).
I shall be looking next into Gift Aid to enhance the generous regular donations that some of you give.
Of course the next step is to look at funding open to us from other charities e.g. Comic Relief etc. now that we are registered!!
Next news.........
After leaving Rwanda I put a proposal application into the Waterloo Foundation and just before Christmas I heard that our application for £10,000 was being considered. After a meeting attended by me and Liz on 7th January with a representative of the Foundation we were told that we would be notified within one month.
Great delight...... a letter has been received confirming a grant of £8,000 to be spent on rainwater harvesting projects and the adult education project. Discussion with Amans in Rwanda at the next opportunity will determine how this will be used to the maximum benefit. An update will follow!
Finally....... whilst this is wonderful news we are restricted as stated on how this money can be used. Given this to be the case, all efforts now will be put into raising as much as possible for an old people's home to be built (thus negating rental payments monthly) and methods to make it sustainable - a target of £5,000 has been set to get the project underway.
PLEASE contact me with any ideas for reaching this target.
